Purposes and Objectives of the North Carolina Society of Historians This society was organized in 1941 for the purpose of collecting and preserving North Carolina history, traditions and folklore on not only the state-wide basis, but on the local and county levels; and to aid in and encourage the exchange of information between members. We encourage the research, collection and preservation of all aspects of North Carolina history including genealogy and archaeology, through our awards program which fulfills one of the Society's objectives. Several awards, by their nature, are restricted to North Carolina residents while others are not. ALL material submitted MUST deal with some aspect of North Carolina history. Awards Please NOTE that awards are never restricted to Society members. Membership is NOT mandatory. YOUR MEMBERSHIP in our organization, though will not only show approval for our efforts, but will provide valuable assistance in seeing that we reach our goals. Our NEWSLETTER/JOURNAL keeps members informed of activities, accomplishments, and aids in the exchange of information between our members. It also promotes the works of members as well as yearly award winners in the Society's primary project, our annual awards program. Members will receive issues as volunteer time for the publication is available. We are always glad to accept queries for publications in our journal. Queries are subject to editing.
