Wallace Clark Cox

 

 

Clark Cox was born in Ashe County, NC, on February 21, 1943.  He was the son of Juanita Weiss Cox and the late Scott Cox.

He was a Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina, Chapel; a former member of the Lion's Club; and a member of First Baptist Church of Rockingham, where he served as a Deacon.

Clark was the Editor of our newsletter, "From the Quill," from August 1987 until 1991.

He was an award-winning author; and, was known for his 3-act historical drama entitled, "The Justice of Our Cause."

Professionally, Clark had been the Associate Editor and Editor of the Rockingham County Daily Journal, News Editor and Senior Writer for The Pilot in Moore County, a Southern Pines newspaper; and, he was a major contributor to Joe McCLarin's Richmond County Historic Collection.

Clark was married to Helen Park Cox, and the couple were the proud parents of two children:  Candace Cox and Tom Cox.

He was involved with the Big Brothers program during which he became a Big Brother to Danny Richardson.

Our dear friend, Clark Cox, lost his struggle with cancer on Thursday, March 18, 2004, at his home.  He will be sorely missed but now peacefully rests in the Eastside Cemetery, Rockingham, NC.

THE CLARK COX HISTORICAL FICTION AWARD was named in his memory.
