Malcolm Fowler

 

Malcolm Fowler was born on October 25, 1901, near Erwin, NC.

He was a NC State graduate, who taught school in Pitt and Harnett Counties.

He later became the owner of a chain of appliance and TV stores, he being a skilled electronics and television repairman.

During World War II, he taught radar coursed to US submarine crews for the US Navy after special study at Columbia University.

Mr. Fowler was a past-president of our Society, the Lillington Chamber of Commerce, Lillington Rotary Club, and the Harnett County Historical Society.

He was a York Rite Mason, and a member of the Lillington United Methodist Church.

Fowler was a noted historian and wuthor of many wonderful books, and he was a National Registered Genealogist.

Malcolm Fowler died on January 13, 1980, before his last book was published.  'The Valley of the Scots.' however, was published by his sister, Wynona Fowler, thus fulfilling her promise to him.

THE MALCOLM FOWLER SOCIETY AWARD was established and named in his honor of his memory in 1984.
