Kathryn L. Bridges, Bernard W. Cruse, Jr, and Larry W. Hayer, transcribers and editors for a book entitled, was presented a prestigious Willie Parker Peace award for a book entitled, Cabarrus County North Carolina Tax Scroll - 1890
Most researchers know that almost all of the 1890 census was destroyed. Of the three surviving North Carolina townships, none are in Cabarrus County. Genealogists use many records to supplement this lost census. For Cabarrus County, the 1890 Tax Scroll is one substitute. Listings for townships one through nine were published in the Cabarrus Genealogy Society journal by Kathryn Bridges over a period of several years. Kathy retired before publishing the last three township lists. Bill Cruse scanned the journal pages and copied the last three lists from microfilm. Soft bound 170 Pages.  This book can be ordered from the
Cabarrus Genealogy Society.  The price including shipping and handling is $21.

Judges Collective Comments:  "These two marvelous editions are a continuum of a series of cemetery books by the Cabarrus Genealogy Society...and they are the result of impeccable research in a colossal cemetery.  The cemetery is so large it demanded two volumes!  This is extremely valuable to any researcher having ties to a cemetery this big.  They have actually made rhyme and reason of what could have been a complicated endeavor.  These are two remarkable editions and we were very proud to judge them."

Judges Collective Comments:  "This little book is replete with information about the union of Lutheran and German Reformed churches in the State; and, although only one Union Church currently exists, Salem Church in Lincolnton which was first organized in 1792.  This book provides us with an abundance of information about non-extant churches that will prove helpful to researchers on an ecumenical basis.  Extremely well researched, self-explanatory text, superb index!"
